Rubenna was the person that actually introduced me to the world of card making by taking me to my very first Mama Elephant Make and Take event 3 years ago and after that I made her take to Michaels for supplies and I’ve been hooked on card making. I was sooo excited to be asked to be part of Rubeena’s anniversary blog hop and I wanted to so something I never done before…. watercoloring…dum dum duuummmm.

I purchased some different watercolor half pans set before but I have never gone into the professional watercolors before but with Rubenna’s encouragement I have finally purchased a couple of the Daniel Smith and Winsor & Newton’s fine watercolors and they have been a joy to work with. Not that it was easy since the biggest obstacle is my impatience. I find the colors I lay down tends to mix and bleed together since I never ever dry my layers enough. After a couple of failed attempts I finally learn from my mistake and try to paint something.

For my card I wanted to do something totally different again and instead of coloring a pre-designed image I decided to dust off my art pencils and draw my own image. Since I am currently fixated on goldfishes I decided I’ll draw my own fish bowl with a cute little round goldfish.

For the coloring, I was able to create my background by putting a generous wash of water around my fish bowl and just dabbing color onto it and the granulation within the pigment just flow out and color the surface beautifully. Since it is my first time using this medium I stuck with a basic 7 colors for the whole card (Daniel Smith: Mayan Blue Green , Haisa Yellow Light, New Gambage, Amethyst Genuine, Perm Sap Green, China White, and Yellow Gold from Kuretake).

  4. Wow!! Your drawing is beautiful! Your goldfish is just stunning and your watercoloring is just lovely. I really need to practice my watercoloring since it is so basic and like you, I’m super impatient so that is part of my frustration with it. Guess I know what I’ll be doing this weekend! 🙂
